This video shows you the vast difference between the blunt "piercing earring" and a specifically designed piercing needle.
Lets talk about your new piercing.
This downloadable PDF will go over healing times, warnings, and considerations before you get pierced, and even discuss how we clean you, the jewelry, and tools we will be using on you.
This downloadable PDF will get into the nitty-gritty of how to clean and care for your new piercing, the do's, don'ts, and the occasions we might deviate from the norm.
Congratulations on your new surface anchor! For the first two weeks, you must keep the new surface anchor covered to secure it with outside pressure. The studio suggests using a small round adhesive bandage for this process. (Please ensure you do not have an adhesive allergy). Our piercing staff suggests you use Naked Oil or Pure Vitamin E Oil around the new piercing once or twice daily. Be careful the oil does not spread and interfere with the adhesive. After two weeks, you should continue to cover the new surface anchor at night. The tissue surrounding the new surface anchor is very fragile and not yet secure until the tissue starts to secure itself around the jewelry. This could take up to 6 weeks.
The area surrounding the new surface anchor can bruise up to a week after receiving the new piercing. Imagine: you’ve hit your thigh on a banister or dresser and a bruise emerges days later. The installation of a microdermal is a similar type of trauma to the skin and can have the same delayed bruising. Other considerations to think about with a surface anchor are lifestyle factors and different placements will be subject to different irritations. Thinking through your hygiene habits or personal/professional environments are important factors when considering a surface anchor. For example, a chest placement requires an awareness of seatbelts, purse straps, or jewelry such as a necklace that may cross paths with the new surface anchor. Similarly, surface anchors on the hips need to be cautious with friction from pants and belts, seatbelts, carrying low-slung boxes, and leaning on hip-high counters.
Please follow the studio's standard guidelines for all our other piercings while also applying the special consideration listed above.
A surface anchor differs from a standard piercing that passes through the entire wall of skin like a nostril or navel. The microdermal lives in the shallow and supple surface layers of the skin. Its entry and exit point are the same. This makes surface anchors distinctly less stable than a traditional/standard piercing, and for that reason, they are considered “long-term temporary” or “semi-permanent.” That means that the average span of a surface anchor piercing is about 5-7 years (sometimes significantly shorter if not cared for correctly), whereas standard piercings can last a lifetime.
That said there are exceptions to every rule, and just like with standard piercings, the healing process dictates the quality of life or viability of your new piercings. Many surface anchors end up lasting much longer.
If You've been pierced at Body-Element you've probably heard this speech a time or two in some variation. Sometimes, however, you might need a refresher. Now it is available on demand.
